This is one of Coro's famous Bird Figural Duettes, the
"Cockatoo," and
is shown in Brunalti's book American Costume Jewelry on page 58. This
particular one is blue and has clear rhinestones lining the upper body.
The rest of the duette has enameling in blue, pink, green, red, black &
yellow. The duette is made from rhodium-plated base metal. The cockatoos
can be worn separately, or the fur clips attach to the mechanism which
carries a pin. The duette clip is marked Coro Duette and there is a
patent number on the frame as well as another on the cockatoo fur clip.
The
designer for this piece is Gene Verrecchio and the patent dates to 1941.
What is absolutely amazing is that we also have the matching earrings.
This set is a collectors dream come true. The condition is excellent
with very little wear to the enameling. The size of the duette is 3-1/2" in length and 2" in width. The earrings are screw-backs and
measure 1-1/2" in length.
