Silver Jewelry Information
|
|
Back |
Silver has been
seen as a symbol throughout history. Classically, gold is seen as the
symbol of the sun, silver the moon. Silver is one of the first metals to
be used by humans. Silver has been used in jewelry since the ancient
Byzantine, Phoenician and Egyptian empires. The lustrous white color and
malleability of this precious metal, and its widespread distribution have made
silver a practical choice for jewelry adornment in diverse cultures. Silver is harder than gold, but softer than copper. It can be hammered
into remarkably thin sheets and drawn into wire finer than human hair. Pure silver is too soft for normal use and is consequently mixed with other
metals; usually copper, to create a harder alloy. |
